How Can We Help You?
Moving to a new neighborhood can be both an exciting and nerve wracking experience. You obviously like the area if you have decided to make it your new home, but that does not mean the challenges go away. Meeting the neighbors, making new friends, learning the area and figuring out how to fit in will require effort on your part.
Whether you are moving 30 or 300 miles away, it can take some time adjust to your new location. Fortunately, we have put together some tips to help you get settled in your new neighborhood.
Say Hello
While trying new things can be fun and exhilarating, the feeling of being the “new kid on the block” can be challenging at first. You may be bashful about the idea of going around to meet the new neighbors, but they may also try to keep their space for a while so they don’t seem intrusive. Break the ice by simply saying hello.
Even during the moving process, take the time to wave or speak to passing neighbors. This will let them know that you are friendly and inviting, and they may be more willing to stop by once all of the chaos has settled down. It is especially nice to get to know your immediate neighbors, so look for opportunities to meet them. If you see them outside checking the mail or pulling some weeds, walk on over and introduce yourself. A quick hello can go a long way to making a good first impression.
Find the Local Spots
One of the most fun details of moving to a new area is getting to find the local gems. This can include restaurants, bars, fitness classes, parks or shops. While they may not always be obvious, they tend to be the best place to hang out or get what you need. If the locals love them, there is a reason why!
Coincidentally, these spots are also great places to get meet some new people in the area. But don’t feel like you have to go on a mission to make friends the first time you head out. Let it happen naturally. If the same server always takes your breakfast order or you are always beside the same lady in your yoga class, use those as opportunities to start chatting with them.
