How Can We Help You?
If you live in the Charlotte area, you are probably familiar with some of Uptown’s most notable buildings. The VUE, Duke Energy Center and Hearst Tower are just a few of the city’s prominent landmarks. But the greatest recognition goes to the Bank of America Corporate Center, which is actually the tallest building in the state of North Carolina.
While the city of Charlotte may be home to some substantial buildings, the fact of the matter is that building more office towers came to a standstill both during and after the recession as developers found the projects too uncertain. However, as things are starting to look up, the Charlotte skyline is about to get a few new faces.
Spectrum Properties and Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers are working together to break ground on a new office building in January. Located beside Latta Arcade at 300 S. Tryon Street, the project is planned to feature Babson Capital Management as its anchor resident.
Cresent Communities plans to break ground on its new development next summer. Located at South Tryon and Stonewall streets, the mixed-use project called Tryon Place will provide several new offerings to the Charlotte area. With retail space, 450 hotel rooms and 600 apartments, this is likely to be a welcomed addition to the Charlotte skyline.
Additionally, Portman Holdings is slated to break ground on its new project called 615 South College in June. This 19-story office tower will be located adjacent to the Westin Charlotte Hotel. It will also feature direct access to the LYNX light rail service and two-story outdoor balconies, making this building both accessible and aesthetically appealing.
So why the sudden boom in tower construction?
Over the past year, around 22,400 jobs have been added in the Charlotte area. That is a lot of workers, which means that new and growing companies need more space to accommodate all of their employees.
Both local and out-of-town developers are seeing the potential in our city as Charlotte makes a name for itself as an up-and-coming city and demand continues to increase. Over the next few years, get ready to see a few new additions to Charlotte’s already impressive skyline.
