When will the Blue Line Extension open?
This new convenience will open on Friday, March 16. After construction delays, roughly two months of testing, and over 10 years since the light rail initially opened in Charlotte, this update to the system will be a welcome addition. It is also important to note that opening day coincides with the start of the NCAA basketball tournament that will be hosted at the Spectrum Center.
Where does the extension run?
The Blue Line Extension begins at the 7th Street Station in Center City. The route then travels through Uptown Charlotte, NoDa, University areas, and concludes at the campus of UNC Charlotte. The extension covers a total of 9.3 miles, and it features 11 stations along the route.
How long will it take to ride the entire light rail?
With this new extension, Charlotte will have 20 miles of light rail available for individuals to use at their convenience. Going from the first stop of the light rail (located at I-485 in South Charlotte) to the final stop at UNC Charlotte will take 45 minutes.
How often will light rail trains operate?
Currently, the LYNX Blue Line operates every 10 minutes during the weekday rush hour and every 15 during off-peak times. On the weekends, the light rail is available every 20 minutes during the day, and it runs every 30 minutes throughout the late-night hours. Once the LYNX Blue Line Extension opens on March 16, CATS anticipates that light rail trains will be available every 7.5 minutes during the weekday rush hour.
How much will a ticket cost?
To ride on the LYNX Blue Line, adult tickets are $2.20 for a one-way ticket and $4.40 for round trip. There are also discounted prices available for seniors, disabled, and children. For weekly unlimited rides, tickets are $30.80 for everyone. All passengers are required to have a valid ticket or pass to ride on the light rail trains.
How do I purchase tickets for the LYNX Blue Line?
If you know when you will be utilizing the light rail or you need to purchase a pass for numerous rides on the LYNX Blue Line, you can easily purchase your passes online ahead of time. You can also purchase passes in advance from several local establishments. If you do not have a ticket, you can purchase one from a Ticket Vending Machine, which are located at all station platforms along the LYNX Blue Line.
Where can I park?
There will be four park-and-ride lots located along the LYNX Blue Line extension. These are located at the JW Clay Boulevard, Old Concord Road, Sugar Creek, and University City Boulevard stations. These lots provide a total of 3,100 parking spaces.
