How Can We Help You?
The process of selling your first house can seem like a roller-coaster ride. It’s thrilling to sell your first major purchase, and it’s even more exciting when you have the opportunity to make a significant profit. However, it can also be a little sad to leave a home that you truly loved and a place where you created some lasting memories. But just as the saying goes – when one door closes, another door opens. Especially in the world of real estate, there are always new and exciting ventures to look forward to.
Regardless of how you feel about selling your first home, there are still a lot of important details and logistics involved in the process. While your realtor will be by your side as you go through the motions, we also have a few helpful tips to keep in mind as you sell your first house.
1) The Inspector Will Always Find Issues with Your Home
No matter how immaculate or perfect your house appears, problems will always be found during the inspection. However, it is important to note that not all issues are created equal. It is the inspector’s job to let the potential buyer know about any and all problems with the house, both current issues and anything that could become troublesome in the future. These could range from minor maintenance such as cleaning out the gutters to significant problems like structural issues.
2) Take Your Emotions Out of the Process
We know you love your house, but you have to remember that this is purely a business transaction. It can be difficult to take your emotions out of the process when it feels like someone is criticizing your home, but they are only doing their due diligence as well.
3) You Have the Power to Fight for the Price You Want
Just because you get an offer as soon as you put your house on the market does not mean you have to take it. Especially if you are not in a hurry to move, you have the power to submit counter offers or reject lowball offers until you get the price you really want.
4) Make Sure You Get Everything in Writing
With so many details involved in selling a house, it is imperative that you get everything in writing. Not only do all the financials need to be documented, but you also want to get the small details in writing as well. For example, you may need to include in the contract that you want to keep your washing machine and dryer, rather than selling them with the house.
5) There Will Always Be Another House
Even though it can be emotional to let go of a house that you loved, you can always find another house. Maybe you will find something with more square footage to accommodate your growing family, or maybe you will find a house in the perfect location. Most importantly, there are always new memories to be made wherever you call home.
