How Can We Help You?
What was once just a large mound of dirt and vacant property will soon be the site of Charlotte’s latest and greatest uptown corridor. Stonewall Street includes a mile-long stretch from Bank of America to the I-277 loop, and developers are planning to transform this area over the next few years.
Once the city and N.C. Department of Transportation made the decision to reduce the I-277 interchanges, five large parcels of land remained. These lots all feature sizes of almost 2 acres or more and offer easy access to Dilworth, South End, midtown and uptown. Currently, four out of the five parcels have been sold, totaling $31.5 million in sales.
While the area does not boast much activity at the present time, developers are hoping to significantly change that within the next five years or so. What can you expect to see?
Crescent Communities has plans to replace the former Goodyear Tire site with a building they are calling Tryon Place, a 27-story office tower that will also include restaurants and shopping. Additionally, they also have plans to build a hotel tower. But this isn’t the only project for Crescent Communities. Across from the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Charlotte Convention Center, there will be 450 apartment units, two hotels and a Whole Foods.
At McDowell and Stonewall, Proffitt Dixon is working on a building that is scheduled for completion this year. Fountains Uptown is a six-story apartment project that features 230 upscale units, and it will be the first project completed in the area. Only one lot remains up for grabs, so it will be exciting to see what else is planned for Stonewall Street.
The activity and excitement surrounding the projects coming to Stonewall Street serve as yet another reminder that the fears faced by developers during the recession are continuing to subside. There truly will be something for everyone once these new projects are completed, whether you are interested in business or pleasure. With more amenities and brand new apartments coming to the uptown area, these changes will be one more reason for individuals to call Charlotte their home.
