Fun Ideas to Make Your Home Creepy for Halloween

Halloween is almost here and it’s time to do a temporary makeover on your home. Turn your residence into a creepy, kooky, spooky place by decorating the exterior with a few simple tips and tricks.

Take an inventory of what you have in your Halloween decorating arsenal. You may need to spend a few bucks to complete the project but you may have enough around your home to spook up the place without spending a dime.

One idea is to turn your yard into a creepy graveyard. If you don’t already have fake gravestones, they are easy enough to make using cardboard, thick foam or wood and spray paint. Add small wooden stakes or wire to stick the gravestones into the ground.

Create creepy, glowing eyes using black craft paint, glow-in-the-dark craft or fabric paint and empty cardboard toilet paper or paper towel tubes. Paint the tubes with the black paint. Once the black paint has dried, draw eyes on the tubes with the glow-in-the-dark paint then allow to dry. Once they have dried, place them around your yard in locations where they will collect sunlight during the daytime. At night, they will “light up” and create spooky, glowing eyes.

Drape store bought spider webs from trees and over bushes and don’t forget a gigantic spider if you have one or can get one!

Make ghostly hands by filling latex gloves with water then tying the gloves like balloons. Allow the gloves to dry then spray paint the hands with glow-in-the-dark spray paint. After the paint has dried, place the hands near the gravestones, in the bushes or even hanging from tree limbs by string. Make several of these for fun and easy decorative effects.

Don’t forget to add pumpkinsto this mix. Use an assortment of carved and uncarved real pumpkins as well as fake pumpkins and Jack O’Lanterns to add to the Halloween decor. If you have solar lights, use those to create creepy lighting around your home. Drape colored tissue paper or gauze cloth over lights at nighttime to create eerie lights in your yard. Place solar lights at various points within your graveyard to light up special decorations such as large gravestones or a creepy monster you have put into place. For a special treat, set up a sound system to play creepy music or sound effects to give trick-or-treaters chills and thrills when they visit.

Have a fun, spooky, wonderful, safe Halloween from the team at Henderson Properties!
