The story behind McAdenville and the Christmas lights dates back to 1956 when members of the McAdenville Men’s Club decided to decorate a few trees with lights around the McAdenville Community Center. W.J. Pharr, who was a town official and president of a yarn factory in McAdenville, decided to make the lights traditional Christmas colors per his wife’s suggestion. The trend picked up and spread wildly throughout the city and soon became McAdenville’s yearly tradition.
