If you’re thinking NoDa sounds like an interesting place, it’s because it is! NoDa is a very eclectic and funky neighborhood in Charlotte, NC. The neighborhood stretches all around North Davidson Street (hence the nickname-NoDa). Although it is still a very up-and-coming neighborhood, the area is attracting many young people and new families. This area has a long and very interesting history. It used to be a center of the textile industry in the early 1900’s. In 1975, the North Davidson area closed its last mill. In the 1980’s young artists came to the area to create an art community. Old mills and plants were converted into art galleries. NoDa was born. The neighborhood is now known as Charlotte’s historic art distric. Some of the city’s best galleries reside here. In fact, twice a month, NoDa holds gallery crawls where the streets are lined with artists and vendors.
NoDa has rows of streets with galleries, shops, bars and restaurants, almost like its own community. Many people who live in Charlotte will travel 30-40 minutes just to come eat dinner and enjoy cocktails as some of the best restaurants are tucked away in this neighborhood. the Crepe Cellar is by far one of the best restaurants in Charlotte. Revolution Pizza is popular for their incredible pizza and large craft beer selection. Need a local coffee shop? NoDa has Smelly Cat Coffee House which is very popular among the locals. When in the area, you also can’t miss Dolce Vita for a glass of wine, Boudreaux’s for spicy cajun food and of course, Cabo Fish Taco (also seen on the television show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network).
Walking the streets of NoDa at night, you will see many young people walking the streets and enjoying live, outdoor music. Salvador Deli is a popular hang out to listen to free music and enjoy beautiful weather. The Neighborhood Theatre which is only a few feet away is a local venue where many popular bands come to play. The entire neighborhood is bursting with life and excitement. The residential neighborhoods surrounding NoDa are very charming. There are many adorable bungalows and condos available in the area.
